Legolas is Retired
“Thank you Akiko and thank you Stefan. You not only wrote history with Legolas but you also gained many equestrian friends and fans through his personality. I will always keep Legolas in my memory. I know that he was not easy, but he always had such extraordinary charisma.” – Ullrich Kasselmann
Legolas (Laomedon x Florestan II), the championship horse ridden by Stefen Peters was official retired at the Del Mar Horseshow in California this weekend. Akiko Yamazaki bought the Westfalian gelding from Hof Kasselmann when he was just nine years old. The pair won team and individual gold at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, placed 12th at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and earned three United States Championship Titles. Legolas was also named US Grand Prix Horse of the Year in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
“This little boy really shines just at the right moment and to come out of the arena knowing that HE supported the team (in Rio) was just incredible… I am extremely thankful not only for the teacher that I had in Legolas, but he really was a professor. I want to thank Akiko for bringing him into my life. I want to thank Ulli Kasselmann who has done such a wonderful job with Legolas, and of course a huge huge thank you to Legolas” said Peters.
The entire Hof Kasselmann team wishes him a happy retirement!
